The internet, which had already become a leading source for campaign news, has now surpassed newspapers as an outlet for national and international news. Four-in-ten Americans get most of their news from the internet, while 35% cite newspapers as their main outlet. Just over a year ago, in September 2007, only 24% said they got most news from the internet. Overall, television, at 70%, continues to be cited most frequently as a main source for national and international news. Among those ages 18-29, however, the internet now rivals television, with 59% of Americans under 30 saying they get most news online, the same percentage that cite TV.
